Approaching Golden, the Trans-Canada Highway is high above the railroad. Near Cloister we look down and see the train crossing the Kicking Horse River.

Finally, the train arrives in Golden. From here it will leave the CPR transcontinental main line and head southward on a scenic route that sees many coal trains.

At Golden, we encounter the other passenger train that uses the CPR main line, the Rocky Mountaineer, which has come from Vancouver and is heading for Calgary. We reverse direction and catch the train at Old Ottertail.

After making a crew change at Field, the Rocky Mountaineer passes through a small tunnel as it climbs towards Kicking Horse Pass on its way to Lake Louise and Calgary.
