Minutes later, the signal goes green for the second southbound, and Conrail SD50 6755 accelerates onto the single track.

Back in Kentucky again, we pause near Wiborg to shoot a southbound with Union Pacific SD40-2R 3647 leading, ending our second day on the Rathole.

On August 6, 1999, we encounter the Rathole again while railfanning the former Louisville & Nashville out of Cincinnati. At Walton, Kentucky, CSX's line passes under the CNO&TP. CSX GP40-2 6054 hustles a train under the Rathole heading south on the L&N.

TT2819

Minutes later, Norfolk Southern Dash 8-40C 8739 leads a southbound down the Rathole. Ahead are all the bridges, cuts and tunnels at King's Mountain, Burnside and Nemo.
