The most famous bridge on the railroad is Halfmoon Trestle, located high above Highway 95. When the train runs earlier in the morning, the half-hour hike up to track level is worth the effort. But today, with the train getting to Halfmoon in mid-afternoon, the best lighting is from the highway looking up.

Twelve minutes after crossing Halfmoon Trestle, the train has dropped almost to the valley floor. It pops out of Tunnel One and crosses U.S. 95.

Just minutes later it crosses over Route 95 once again. Note the trestles high on the hillside -- the train crossed those about 30 minutes ago! Halfmoon Trestle is out of view to the right.

Just because we're on the valley floor doesn't mean we're out of wooden trestles. Rock Creek Trestle is the last of the large wooden bridges we'll encounter, however.
