It's just about time to head back to the United States, but a check to the railroad reveals that there is a southbound train at Baker and a northbound will be leaving Port Cartier around 1200. Heading back up the line, I intercept the southbound at Able, this time with freshly-painted M636 No.83 leading.

The southbound gets into Port Cartier, so I set up on a hillside outside the plant to wait for the northbound. RS18 No.68 does some switching outside the plant to provide entertainment for the wait.

Finally, a trio of big MLW's appear outside the plant as they put their train together. I know this will be the last all-MLW train I'll ever see on the Cartier, so I have to make a decision -- do I go for several good shots or try for one outstanding shot?

The decision is made -- I decide to go for one outstanding shot. I head north until I get to the grade crossing just south of Charles, and then I hike in to a rock ledge. After a long wait, the signal behind me goes green, and soon I hear the chant of Alcos working uphill. The sound lasts for several minutes before M636 No.81 appears and swings across a trestle down the tracks from my location.

As the big MLW's head toward my location, I push the shutter. I then pause and listen as the train continues its uphill assault. With that, I say goodbye to the Cartier and head back towards the unbelievable events taking place in my home country.
