| | | May 2009 Indiana Wants MeIn May 2009 we headed to Indiana to get the ex-Monon semaphores on CSX's Hoosier Subdivision. We had five railroads we wanted to hit -- the fayette Central tourist line in Pennsylvania, the Indiana Rail Road, Louisville & Indiana and Southern Indiana (all in Indiana, oddly enough) and Transkentucky Transportation in Kentucky. Five railroads, all of which needed to operate on just the right days at just the right times to make the trip successful. Read the blog entry here. |

| | | November 2007 Pennsylvania Past BlastIn November 2007 the past was celebrated in eastern Pennsylvania. First, the Lackawanna Railfest at Steamtown National Historic Site brought a variety of equipment into the park, including a live (sort of) Big Boy. After the Railfest, Lerro Productions held a Night at the Museum at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, celebrating the Standard Railroad of the World. Keeping things going, Lerro Productions then brought a bit of southern Ontario to Amish Country with an all-Canadian National steam day on the Strasburg Rail Road. Wrapping things up, the Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society had an excursion from Scranton to Analomink powered by New York & Greenwood Lake's freshly restored E8, Erie 833. | | | October 2007 A Train Named SooA photo freight charter featuring Soo Line 2-8-2 No.1003 got me above the Cheddar Curtain in October 2007. After a couple of dreary days fanning around Milwaukee, the weather turned nice for the charter. Another dreary day followed, but the final day of the trip turned out to be productive, literally finishing up with Miller Time. Canadian Pacific provided most of the non-charter excitement. | | | September 2006 North WoodsAt the urging of Steve Glischinski, I headed to Minnesota for five days of railfanning in Spetember. The primary goal was a photo freight Steve had organized on the North Shore Scenic out of Duluth, but there were plenty of other attractions. A night photo session featuring Soo Line equipment at the former Soo station in Superior, Wisconsin, certainly got my attention. Likewise, Alcos on the Minnesota, Dakota & Western at International Falls were worth seeing. Finally, Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No.261 had a weekend of trips and a ferry move to Iowa with a nearly-matched all-Milwaukee trainset in tow. Good enough for me! Read the blog entry here. |

| | | August 2006 SummerailOne of the big railroad photography exhibitions, Summerail at CUT (Cincinnati Union Terminal), was held on August 12, 2006. On the day before Summerail, I headed west with my brother Bruce for the show, then took some time during the days after Summerail to explore eastern Ohio. Read the blog entry here. |

| | | August 2006 Delaware & HudsonA trip to help with a night photo sesion on the Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley in New York brought me into Delaware & Hudson territory. The C&CV operates on an ex-D&H branch, complete with an Alco S4 in a D&H-inspired paint scheme. The D&H main line, which connects with the C&CV at Cooperstown Junction, is now operated by Canadian Pacific. Read the blog entry here. |

| | | July 2006 Buckeye RailsThe National Railway Historical Society's annual Convention was based out of New Philadelphia, Ohio, from July 18-22, 2006. Our trip began on July 15 and ended on July 23, taking us across Pennsylvania, exploring the Ohio Central and Wheeling & Lake Erie, chasing a variety of trips at the Convention and returning home. I went with my brother Bruce, and we were joined by John Dziobko, Jr., of Iowa for the chases of the three Ohio Central trips at the Convention. Jerry Jordak was our guide on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic, and Frank Ferguson and Mike Burkhart tagged along for much of the trip. Read the blog entry here. |

| | | May 2006 Eastern PennsylvaniaThree one-day trips around the Keystone State. The first day was chasing Steamtown National Historic Site's excursion from Scranton to East Stroudsburg, followed by a visit to the New Hope & Ivyland. The second day was spent along Norfolk Southern's ex-Reading main line near Fleetwood. Finally, Memorial Day was spent walking through the Lehigh Gorge to check out Reading & Northern's new tourist operation, the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railroad. Read the blog entry here. |

| | | May 2006 Spencer Railroad DaysAn invitation to help out with the night photo session at the North Carolina Transportation Museum's Railroad Days wasa great excuse for a spring trip to the South. The weather wasn't the best, but I had a new toy to play with -- a Nikon D200 digital camera. Read the blog entry here. |
